Turnstyle Bulk Buyers Food Co-operative
Every Wednesday evening Turnstyle hosts a group who are using their combined purchasing power to buy cheap local and ethical food in bulk. Members select and pack their own purchases from the bulk order delivered to Turnstyle on Wednesday evenings. There are fresh fruit and vegetables, dairy products, soy goods, bread, milks, coffee, honey, soap, detergents, spices and various dried goods (rice, lentils, legumes, flours, nuts, seeds, dried fruit, etc.).
Each member chooses the food they would like, weighs it up and prices it (at cost price). Once all members have chosen, a second round is called for to share out whatever fresh produce is left. The produce for the next week is then decided upon and ordered.
Members can be individuals, households or small groups. Anyone can come along to watch or join the group. A commitment to the group requires a $50 fully refundable deposit (so there is enough money to pay for the next week’s produce) and a commitment to assist regularly in some capacity as a volunteer.
